$20K Grant to Help Multicultural Business Owners Thrive

The Allan Labor Government’s recent funding boost to multicultural businesses is making waves, particularly among female entrepreneurs. The latest initiative, which provides $20,000 to Afro Aussie Women in Business, aims to help multicultural business owners grow their ventures with tailored training and networking opportunities.

Minister for Small Business and Employment, Natalie Suleyman, visited the Werribee-based organisation recently to discuss their Accelerate Your Net Worth project, which will offer financial literacy workshops, investment strategy seminars, and personalized mentoring. The program is designed to meet the unique challenges faced by small business owners, particularly those in multicultural communities.

Speaking on the importance of such programs, Minister Suleyman said, “Afro Aussie Women in Business is empowering multicultural female business owners across Melbourne to take their businesses to the next level. Small businesses are the heart and soul of Victoria, and we’re proud to support trader groups in helping them thrive.”

This project is part of the state government’s broader $17 million commitment to multicultural traders and precincts. Included in this investment is $2 million dedicated to supporting multicultural traders’ associations, enabling them to assist local businesses directly. This support aims to not only help individual businesses but also to strengthen the economic and cultural fabric of local communities.

Victoria is home to over 718,000 small businesses, with more than a third of them being owned by migrants. Multicultural businesses are integral to the state’s economy, providing jobs and enhancing the vibrancy of local precincts. As the government continues to foster these businesses, it’s clear that supporting diversity can lead to long-term economic benefits.

Founder of Afro Aussie Women in Business, Patience Rabai, echoed the significance of this initiative, saying, “I’m thrilled to see our government recognising the essential role multicultural businesses play in driving innovation, economic growth, and enriching our communities. This initiative empowers African women and creates opportunities that benefit all Australians.”

This is just one example of how the Labor Government is supporting small businesses in Victoria. The government’s investment in skills development, mentoring, and business precincts is helping entrepreneurs thrive, and initiatives like these underscore the importance of empowering diverse business communities.

With the start of a new year, supporting local businesses has never been more important. For those looking to get involved, the government’s resources, including Business Victoria’s support services, offer a clear path for both aspiring and established business owners.

This initiative highlights the critical role that multicultural businesses play in Victoria’s economy, and with continued support, these businesses are positioned to drive innovation, create jobs, and enhance the local community’s vibrancy for years to come.
