The 2024 National Self-Employment Conference, scheduled for September 9-10 at the Stamford Grand in Glenelg, Adelaide, aims to tackle the pressing issues faced by Australian small businesses and startups as they navigate a challenging economic landscape.

The event will gather managers, trainers, mentors, and support staff from Australia’s Self-Employment Assistance (S-EA) providers, alongside key figures from the small business sector and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations. Notably, Assistant Minister The Hon Dr. Andrew Leigh MP will deliver a keynote address.

This assembly of industry experts is expected to share valuable insights, strategies, and innovative solutions designed to help small businesses not just survive but thrive in these uncertain times. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, inflation has driven operational costs up by 15% over the past year, severely impacting profitability.

“In the face of economic headwinds, it’s more crucial than ever for small business owners and entrepreneurs to stay informed and connected,” said Diane Minnis, CEO of the National Self-Employment Association. “This conference offers an unparalleled opportunity for networking, learning, and collaboration, which can make the difference between struggle and success for many small enterprises.”

The two-day conference will feature expert-led presentations on a range of critical topics, including:

Empowering Australian Businesses using AI

Emotional Intelligence in Mentoring

Protecting Your Cyber Space

The Six Pillars of Wellbeing: Turning Science into Action

A highlight of the event will be the 2024 National Self-Employment Business Awards ceremony on September 10. The recently announced finalists represent exceptional achievements in small business support and performance, with awards including the Best New Business Award, the BizCover Change Award, the Unsung Hero Award, and the Business Champion Award.

“The importance of community and collaboration among small businesses, particularly in a tight economic climate, cannot be overstated,” said NS-EA CEO Diane Minnis. “Events like the National Self-Employment Conference are crucial in providing small enterprises with the tools and connections they need to navigate economic uncertainty.”
